In MY VICTORY VERSES, we will explore key Bible verses that have shaped my life recovery journey since 2005. After sharing how these verses impacted me, we will dive into their meaning and how they bring lasting victory. This column publishes on the 3rd Friday of each month in 2025.
Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. ~ Matthew 11:28–30 (The Message)
Some Bible verses seem to breathe. These exhale peace with every word.
In the hustle of daily life, in the heaviness of expectations—whether others’ or our own—Jesus speaks directly to our soul fatigue. “Come to me.” That’s the invitation. Not to perform. Not to push. But to be with Him.
This passage from The Message speaks so tenderly to the weary and the overwhelmed. Maybe that’s why it’s resonated so deeply with me during this season of navigating health flare-ups, unpredictable emotions, and trying to do everything “right.” But Jesus doesn’t ask for perfection. He offers presence. He says: “Walk with Me… learn the unforced rhythms of grace.”
What are these rhythms? They are not the demands of religion or the rigid beat of hustle culture.
They’re the sacred tempo of divine grace. Gentle. Unhurried. Loving.
Jesus doesn’t promise a life without burdens—but He does promise that He won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on us. That phrase alone has comforted me in the moments I’ve tried to wear roles or expectations that were never mine to carry.
🌿 Victory Reflection
Victory doesn’t always look like conquering. Sometimes, it looks like releasing. Like choosing rest over relentless striving. Like trusting that Jesus can carry what you were never meant to bear alone.
This month, I’m learning to listen for grace’s rhythm—to slow down, breathe deeply, and let Jesus set the pace. Because walking with Him brings not just peace, but purpose.

🙏 A Gentle Prayer
Lord, I lay down my striving and my need to know all the answers. Teach me the unforced rhythms of grace. Help me walk with You, at Your pace, and in Your peace. When my mind spirals into worry, gently lead me back into Your arms. I trust that You’re working even when I cannot see. I choose today to rest in You, and to live freely and lightly. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
