Today we are going to do something a little different for our 5th Friday review. Rather than reviewing one complete album, we are going to take a worship journey through several recent Michael W. Smith releases that especially ministered to my heart. These songs carry themes of comfort, surrender, communion, redemption, healing, and hope.
Sometimes worship music becomes more than background noise. Sometimes it becomes a companion through difficult seasons… a reminder that God is still near, still faithful, and still working within our weary hearts.

Here are my impressions as I watched the YouTube music video: very cool retro 80s-inspired energy with beautiful visuals and an uplifting sound that immediately pulled me in. Michael W. Smith somehow manages to blend nostalgia, hope, and encouragement into one joyful experience.
The children featured throughout the video touched my heart deeply and made me reflect on my own experiences as a child. The lyrics feel warm, hopeful, and reassuring — almost like being reminded that even in difficult seasons, God still holds us close.
Turn this one up loud.

2. Crimson Dust
Redemption | Humanity | Grace
My impressions: this song feels deeply poetic and worshipful. The imagery surrounding the Cross of Christ and the “crimson dust” of redemption is both sobering and beautiful.
The visuals are powerful, filled with symbolic reminders of Christ’s sacrifice and redeeming love. There is something sacred and reflective about this song that invites quiet contemplation rather than emotional hype.
One of Michael W. Smith’s most moving recent releases in my opinion.
Released in Israel from the EP Worthy Is the Lamb, this song carries a timeless worship atmosphere that lingers long after it ends.
3. Hymn for Communion
Intimacy with God | Stillness | Sacred Presence
My impressions: this song feels tender, reverent, and deeply peaceful. It creates the kind of sacred quiet that is becoming increasingly rare in our noisy world.
As I listened, I found myself slowing down internally — breathing deeper, thinking less, and simply resting in the presence of God. The lyrics gently draw the listener back to the beauty of communion, remembrance, surrender, and intimacy with Christ.
This is not performance-driven worship. It is quiet worship for quiet hearts.
Perfect for devotional time, prayer, or simply sitting still before the Lord.
4. Kingdom Come
Surrender | Prayer | Eternal Perspective
My impressions: this song carries classic Michael W. Smith worship energy while still feeling fresh and relevant. There is both strength and reverence woven throughout the lyrics.
I especially loved the prayerful theme running through the song — the longing for God’s kingdom, His will, and His presence to break into our weary and broken world.
Musically, it feels like a beautiful return to some of Smitty’s classic worship roots while still carrying modern production and energy.
One of those songs that makes you want to lift your hands and sing along.
5. Your Love Is a Flood
Restoration | Overwhelming Grace | Healing
My impressions: this song surprised me in the best way. The orchestral arrangement gives it a very different emotional atmosphere from Michael’s traditional pop worship style.
The lyrics are incredibly poetic and almost psalm-like in places, creating a sweeping sense of God’s overwhelming love and restoring grace. There is both tenderness and strength in the way the song builds emotionally.
Beautiful music for women walking through healing seasons, waiting seasons, or simply needing the reminder that God’s love still reaches every broken place.
Final Thoughts
One thing I have always appreciated about Michael W. Smith’s music is his ability to create worship that grows with you through the seasons of life.
Some worship songs excite us.
Some comfort us.
Some strengthen us.
And some quietly sit beside us while God heals weary places in our hearts.
These songs reminded me that worship is not merely music to consume… it is often companionship for the soul.
And sometimes weary hearts simply need to sit quietly in God’s presence and remember:
