BOOK STUDY || The Answer to Anxiety by Joyce Meyer || Ch 5

On the fourth Friday of each month in 2026, we’re studying The Answer to Anxiety by Joyce Meyer. Join me as we learn practical. Scripture-based steps we can take when fear or worry try to take hold.

CHAPTER FIVE — Simple Prayer

“Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden.”
— Corrie Ten Boom

INTRODUCTION

In Chapter Five, Joyce Meyer digs deeper into the power of simple prayer, connecting it to how our love walk affects answered prayer. She reminds us that prayer is simply communicating with God about whatever is on our hearts. We don’t need fancy words or polished phrases—we just need to be real.

Joyce also encourages us not to compare our prayers to others. God doesn’t want us to pray like someone else; He wants us to pray like ourselves.

“A sincere, heartfelt one-minute prayer can be more powerful than thirty minutes of repetition that means very little to you.”
— Joyce Meyer

THE POWER OF SIMPLE PRAYER

“The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous person makes tremendous power available.”
— James 5:16

Simple prayer is powerful because it flows from the heart. God responds to sincerity, not length. Prayer is not about impressing God—it’s about inviting Him into our lives.

“Jesus did not teach His disciples long and complicated prayers.”
— Joyce Meyer

THE MODEL FOR SIMPLE PRAYER

When the disciples asked Jesus how to pray, He gave them what we know as The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9–13). Joyce breaks this prayer into simple, meaningful parts that guide us in our own prayer life.

The Lord’s Prayer teaches us to:

    • Treat God’s name with reverence
    • Seek God’s will above our own
    • Trust God for daily provision
    • Ask for forgiveness—and forgive others
    • Ask for help with temptation
    • Ask for protection from evil
    • Remember that all power and glory belong to God

This prayer shows us that prayer doesn’t need to be complicated—it just needs to be sincere.

PRAYER AND LOVE

“Even the simplest prayer opens the door for God to work in your life.”
— Joyce Meyer

Scripture teaches us important truths about prayer:

    • We don’t have because we don’t ask (James 4:2)
    • When we ask, seek, and knock, God responds (Matthew 7:7–8)
    • Faith pleases God (Hebrews 11:6)
    • Faith works through love (Galatians 5:6)

One of Joyce’s most important reminders is this:

“We need love to back up our prayers.”
— Joyce Meyer

Love matters deeply to God. Our prayers are affected by how we love Him and how we treat others.

IMPORTANT CONDITIONS FOR ANSWERED PRAYER

Joyce reminds us that answered prayer is connected to:

    • Forgiving others
    • Praying sincerely
    • Praying in faith
    • Loving God and loving people
    • Praying according to God’s will

Love keeps our hearts soft and our prayers effective.

CALL TO ACTION

This week, practice simple prayer. Talk to God honestly about what’s on your heart. Ask Him to help you grow in love toward others. Release unforgiveness, and trust that God hears even the simplest prayer.

CLOSING PRAYER

Lord, thank You for inviting me to come to You just as I am. Help me pray simply, sincerely, and with a heart full of love. Teach me to trust You and walk in Your will each day. Amen.
