In MY VICTORY VERSES, we will explore key Bible verses that have shaped my life recovery journey since 2005. After sharing how these verses impacted me, we will dive into their meaning and how they bring lasting victory. This column publishes on the 3rd Friday of each month in 2025.
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
—Isaiah 43:18–19
When I began my recovery journey in 2005, this verse became a lifeline. I clung to it like a flashlight in a dark forest—unsure of where I was going, but desperate to believe that God was leading me somewhere better. I needed hope that He could bring life out of the ashes and forge a new path for someone like me.
Almost twenty years later, Isaiah 43:18–19 still holds me steady. My life with Bill has been a beautiful, chaotic roller coaster of entrepreneurial adventures—ups, downs, restarts, and risks that didn’t always make sense to me. Through every twist and turn, this verse has echoed in my spirit:
Forget the former things. I’m still doing a new thing.
God never stops creating. Never stops redeeming. Even when the scenery feels like a wilderness or a wasteland, He is working beneath the surface, carving out a way where there was none before.
Sometimes, we miss what He’s doing because our eyes are fixed on the past—on regrets, failures, or even old glories we wish we could relive. But God invites us to look up. To perceive. To trust.
His “new thing” might not be flashy or dramatic. It might be a quiet shift in your heart, a healed relationship, a fresh burst of courage, or a calling you never expected. But if He’s doing it—it’s holy. It’s good. And it leads to life.
Friend, if you’re in the wilderness, don’t lose hope. If you feel stuck in a wasteland, lift your eyes. He is still doing a new thing. You are invited to walk forward confidently trusting because God will always lead you to victory!
